WEDNESDAY'S LIST ... of beans 'n greens 'n other things: JANNEY FURNACE, my hometown's leading "tourist" attraction would like for you to drop by Saturday morning.

We're talking the scene of a War Between the States battlefield just a mile or so from downtown Ohatchee which, with a big push from the Calhoun County Commission, has been converted into a lovely little park that now includes a museum.

The official title is Janney Furnace Museum but a museum which is being dedicated Saturday morning headlines Indian and Civil War artifacts.

The ribbon cutting is at 10 and following a bit of speech-talk, there will be all sorts of things to do, including fishing for a 50-pound catfish that Commissioner Eli Henderson has turned loose in the park's small lake.

"Whoever catches that fish," says Henderson, "gets $50. That's a dollar a pound."

Truth is, I think we could have figured that one without Eli's help, but another truth is Janney Furnace Park is a reality in a very large part due to Henderson's work on the project.

Have fun . . .

ACRONYMS I can do without . . .

POTUS — President Of The United States.

FLOTUS — First Lady Of The United States.

For some reason, those two sound like something you'd find in a country "outhouse" . . . along with an old Sears & Roebuck catalog.

OK, so I'm a little bit weird but roll the two words around in your mind, say 'em out loud . . . . and while my beloved and late mother would have no idea what I was talking about, she'd surely reach for the Octagon soap and wash out my mouth.

BIRTHDAYS: Oct. 6 — Eddie Boone; Oct. 8 — Vickie Smith; Oct. 11 — Crystal Waters; Oct. 12 — Jean Deeth and Runfola; Oct. 13 — Betty Vice and Amy Brillhart.

SPECIAL PEOPLE:

A happy birthday to Alice Barnwell who celebrated 90 years on Oct. 5. Alice, who calls Jacksonville home, gave birth to 10 boys and two girls and all were born at home. Eleven are still living.

Working on his second century is Fred Hutcheson who is 101 today. I'm told he works in his yard just about every day.

Then there's Lillie Mae Uptain, who celebrated her 100th year Tuesday. Daughter Venelle Landers/Smith says, "My mother is a pistol ball. She is still active and sassy."

IT'S LOCATION, location, location . . .

Gas per gallon was $2.27.9 Tuesday on U.S.431 in Saks, $2.13.9 at Kangaroo on South Quintard.

That's a difference of 14 cents in like maybe four miles . . . explain that to me.

IT OCCURS to me that if our new president's accomplishments ever live up to his rhetoric, Mr. Obama will be the greatest.

They'll take Ole Abe out of that marble chair in D. C. and give his eternal seat to our 44th POTUS. The guy can, as the say, talk the talk. Now, if he can walk the walk.

Have a nice day.
