Also this date: A J.C. Penney advertisement aimed at boys urges them to join the store's "Sheep-lined Coat Club" by putting 50 cents down on a leatherette-and-sheepskin winter coat. "We'll hold your coat and when winter rolls around you'll have it paid for with small [50-cent] weekly payments that you'll hardly miss now!" states the ad. Total price of the coat: $2.98.
Additionally: "The Anniston Star scored again Thursday for its readers, when the final edition carried two news scoops that did not appear in home editions of other newspapers delivered in the city," reads a bit of front-page chest-thumping about yesterday's content. Sept. 21, 1984, in The Star: The Anniston City Board of Education is accepting bids to buy the Woodstock School property along 10th Street, the proceeds to help finance construction of a middle school on Alabama 21. In other education news, there's effort to revive a PTA or PTO group at Anniston High School, which hasn't had one since 1978 for lack of parent interest.
