A Calhoun County man died late Saturday evening following a one-car wreck in Alexandria earlier that morning.

William J. Wilson, 26, was driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber southbound on U.S. 431 around 9 a.m. Saturday when he ran off the roadway near Alabama 144 and struck an embankment, Alabama Highway Patrol public information officer Charles Joiner said.

Calhoun County coroner Pat Brown said Wilson was airlifted later in the day to University Hospitals in Birmingham, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.

Brown said the cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma.

Joiner said although Wilson's driver's license listed him as an Anniston resident, he was believed to be living in Jacksonville.
