This year, I was chosen to try the putt for $25,000. Even at 8 p.m., after all the hours that they had put in, the guys at Anniston Country Club were still cheerful and helpful. Unfortunately, my limited golf skills came to light when I tried the putt. But now my son and I have a special memory of the 2009 tournament. As my son said, "It's not every day you see a guy shank a putt out of play." My son hasn't called me "Shankapottamus" yet, but he will.
I want to say thank you to everyone at Cider Ridge Golf Club, the Anniston Country Club and Cane Creek Golf Course. Also, a special thanks to the volunteers, sponsors and especially the King family and organization, who give so much to this event.
As we watched the finish of play on that Sunday, we even started talking about my grandson playing in the future.
