DECATUR — The Bayou battle was over not long after it began Sunday at Burningtree Country Club.

Sang Yi, who entered the final round of the Spirit of America golf tournament tied for the lead with LSU teammate Josh Jones, made three birdies on the front nine and held off one of his best buds for the win.

A rising sophomore at LSU, Yi fired a 2-under par 69, brining his four-day total to 279. Jones' final-round 74, his highest score of the week, left him in a tie for third at 284.

"I made two good par saves on the first two holes and them made a good birdie putt on 3. Whenever you putt well, it helps," Yi said. "The key was making my putts that I needed to, and I didn't get into trouble."

Jacksonville State golfer Garrett Burgess, the first round leader, finished 23rd. After shooting 68 in the opening round, Burgess finished the tournament by shooting 72, 77 and 75. He had not played the Burningtree course since 2002.
