Oxford man dies in car accident

A 62-year-old Oxford man was killed in a traffic accident Saturday morning at the intersection of U.S. 78 and Barry Street.

According Oxford police reports, Bruce Bowman, who was not wearing safety belts, was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage eastbound on the highway and attempting a left turn onto Barry Street at 10:10 a.m.

Driving west was Jeremy Glenn Hobbs, 29, of Oxford, in a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 truck. Following the collision at the intersection, Bowman was taken by Oxford EMS to Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:02 a.m.

The Oxford Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Passengers in the vehicle with Hobbs — Trecie Hobbs, 32, Jeremy Dylan Hobbs, 11 and Dakota Hobbs, 7 — were transported to RMC and later released, police said.

The Oxford Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the collision.
