By a 3-2 vote, Anniston’s City Council on Tuesday altered its business loan program so that it could loan money to the Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board.

The city originally set up the loan fund to help out downtown business owners. Owners could borrow up to $30,000 to fix up their buildings.

With Tuesday’s amendment, the city can approve loans to governmental or quasi-governmental entities and require no interest rate, term, amount or duration limits.

Such loans must be approved by the City Council, the amendment says, rather than just the revolving loan fund board.
