"Tortured logic." That's the only term suitable to describe the discussions about the Bush administration ordering the torture of terrorist suspects. On the one hand, former President Bush said, "America does not torture." On the other hand, we know that was one more lie. But, the Republicans say (now) Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi knew of the torture before Bush made the denial statement and Pelosi has more guilt than those who ordered the torture.

Polls indicate Americans who attend church regularly are more likely to approve torture than those who seldom attend or don't attend at all. What message does this bring? It shows the teachings of the Bible aren't as important to most of these churchgoers as the teachings of right-wing hate groups and individuals.

Some say those who oppose torture should be reminded of the terrorists. As a combat veteran who fought in the battle of Hue during the Tet Offensive of 1968, I am fully aware of the evils of terrorists. I am also aware that when we adopt the tactics and immorality of terrorists, we sink to their level and no longer deserve to be called Americans (or Christians).
