Some animal-loving doctors at the Anniston Medical Clinic donated $3,384.45 to the Anniston Animal Shelter Friday upon reading about the shelter's financial woes in that day's edition of The Star.

Angie Hammond, the chief operating officer for the clinic, said the clinic's 11 doctors got together to donate the money, which will pay for the shelter's delinquent power bills.

She said the story even made a customer service representative at Alabama Power cry.

"All the doctors here are animal lovers," Hammond said.

Efforts Friday to reach Animal Shelter workers were unsuccessful.
