A man was in Calhoun County Jail on Thursday after allegedly attacking two men May 9, Oxford police Sgt. L.G. Owens said.

Terence Devonta Jackson of the 900 block of Martin Luther King Drive in Hobson City was arrested and charged Wednesday with second-degree assault and third-degree robbery.

Owens said Jackson, who is black, began yelling racial epithets at the white victims at Quintard Mall, and the victims decided to leave.

Jackson allegedly pursued the two as they tried to drive to DeArmanville, forcing them off the road about halfway between the mall and the Jones-DeArmanville Drive intersection.

Owens said Jackson demanded the victims leave their truck, and when the driver complied, he began hitting him.

At some point he allegedly hit the victim on the back of the head with a baseball bat, knocking him out, Owens said.

The passenger got out of the truck and tried to get Jackson to stop attacking the unconscious victim, Owens said.

Owens said Jackson then hit the passenger and stole his wallet.

Jackson is to appear in court July 23 on the assault charge and Aug. 6 on the robbery charge.

His bond was not set Thursday.
