In 2008, 134 law enforcement officers nationwide gave their lives in the line of duty. In 2009, 46 law enforcement officers died.

Law enforcement is a profession chosen not for money or personal gain. It is chosen by those who love our nation and all of the people in it. It is truly a noble profession that deserves our respect. As law enforcement officers celebrate national Law Enforcement Week, take the extra time to thank them for their service.

The third annual Calhoun County Law Enforcement Memorial will be at 11 a.m. today at Anniston's Centennial Park, Quintard Avenue and 17th Street. Please attend as all fallen officers of Calhoun County are remembered.

Matthew Wade

Calhoun County Sheriff's Office
