Granted, Bo Jackson — yes, that Bo Jackson, a 1995 Auburn grad — isn't the expected fare for a commencement address. Ex-jocks, even if they do well after their playing careers are complete, don't often carry the same gravitas as do Fortune 500 CEOs or millionaire alums from the business world.
But let's not criticize. Instead, let's hand it to Auburn for making a wise selection — if it were determined to invite a former Tiger star to speak to its spring 2009 class.
Trust us; this might have been a bad PR move. Auburn could have selected Charles Barkley, whose January DUI arrest brought him more publicity, and embarrassment, than he normally craves.
Guess Auburn and Bo both know what's best.
