OXFORD — A day after knocking off the state's No. 1 team, Oxford found out who was up next.

The most tradition-rich team in the state.

Vestavia Hills defeated Hoover 5-4 in the third one-run game of the series to advance to the semifinals, which begin Friday at Oxford.

Game times have to be approved by the Alabama High School Athletic Association and will be announced today.

Beginning in 1991, Vestavia Hills won the first of nine state championships and a 1998 national championship under the late Sammy Dunn. This year, the Rebels ended the regular season ranked eighth and are now 26-10 overall. Oxford is 25-12.

In the south half of the bracket, Auburn (32-7) visits Mary Montgomery (28-10) for the right to go the state finals in Montgomery.
