Prep roundup: Mullinax's big day leads Wellborn

Carlee Mullinax singled, slugged a pair of home runs and drove in eight runs as Wellborn beat Weaver 18-3 on Tuesday.

Camryn Beasley doubled and drove in two runs, while Tymeria Mackey tripled and had two RBIs. Lauren Carroll had a single and an RBI, and Taylor Houck singled twice.

Winning pitcher Brooke Angle worked four innings and struck out five.

Wellborn (2-0) will play again Friday when it hosts a round-robin tournament.

Faith Christian 6, Jefferson Christian 1: Presley Whitten doubled and singled twice for Faith Christian (1-4) in its first win of the season. She also got the pitching win after working six innings.

Jasmyne Groce tripled, and Andrea Davis doubled. Peyton Camp and Brittany McDade each singled.

Oxford 8, Cleburne County 5: The Yellow Jackets won their eighth straight with an eight-inning victory at Heflin.

Lexie Higgins was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, while Mackenzie Trantham was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Morgan Whaley went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

Jenn Turner was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kaylynn Garrett was 2-for-5.

Winning pitcher Jo Jo Skinner worked seven innings, struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.

Oxford (8-1) will face Southside at home Thursday at 6:30 p.m.


Weaver 10, Ohatchee 4:
Dalton Heath finished with a triple, single and five RBIs in the Bearcats’ home win over the Indians.

Cody Ortiz got the win, allowing six hits over five innings. He was 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored.

T.J. Thompson finished with two singles and two runs. Austin Jennings added two singles and a run. Jake Garrick had two singles, two runs and two RBIs.

Johnny Jones and Deon Monroe each doubled, and Monroe added a run.

Weaver (3-1) will host Donoho on Thursday.

Piedmont 6, Etowah 0: At Piedmont, Peyton Whitten limited the Blue Devils to two hits and two walks over seven innings for a complete-game shutout. Whitten got stronger as the game progressed. He struck out four in the first four inning then fanned the side in the fifth and sixth and added two more strikeouts in the seventh to finish with 12.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the second and three in the third. Dalton Spears was 2-for-3 with a double, and Payton Young was 2-for-4. Spears, Young, Jaret Prater and Taylor Hayes each had an RBI. Tyler Lusk scored two runs.


Donoho boys 8, Jacksonville 1:
Richard Bateman, Chandler Collins, Jake Walker, Ben Myrick and Patrick Huang each scored singles wins for Donoho.

In doubles, Bateman teamed with Quinlan Swain for a win at the No. 1 spot. Walker and Collins won at No. 2, and Myrick and Huang won at No. 3.

Donoho girls 9, Jacksonville 0: Nina Bidikov won at No. 1 singles, while Donoho also got singles wins from Brooke Bracho, Camille Fink, Wittney Brown, Corrine Heathcock and Rivers Owsley.

In doubles, Bidikov and Bracho won at No. 1. Fink and Brown won at No. 2, and Heathcock and Owsley won at No. 3.

Donoho (2-0) will play Faith Christian today at Golden Springs Community Center at 4 p.m.


Clay Central boys 164, Sylacauga 183:
Playing at Sylacauga Country Club, Spencer Loveless and Riley Sanford each shot 40 for Clay Central. Payton Davidson added a 41.

Clay Central will play in a tournament Saturday at Twin Bridges in Gadsden.
