Jacksonville 17, Westbrook Christian 1: Jackson Bell went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and four runs in Jacksonville’s road win.
Lavontae LaCount was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs. Sid Thurmond doubled and went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Waugh was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Chance Marbut was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Chris Elias was 1-for-3 and scored three times.
Thurmond got the pitching win, working five innings and striking out six.
Alexandria 7, Etowah 6: At Attalla, Dalton Cobb’s sacrifice fly scored Zac Carrizales with what proved to be the winning run in the top of the eighth.
Carrizales had walked, then advanced to third on Ethan Curvin’s base hit. Will Reaves pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-hit relief with six strikeouts and was the winner. Carrizales, Dakota Kelley and Justin Whitley each had two hits. One of Kelley’s was a double. Cobb had homered earlier in the contest.
Alexandria (4-0) will play today at 4 p.m. at Gadsden against Gadsden City and Westbrook Christian.
Jacksonville boys 6, Oxford 3: Will Cole won at No. 3 singles for Jacksonville, and Brett Noah added a victory at No. 4. Garrison Cunningham and Noah won at No. 2 doubles.
Oxford’s Ryan Shedrick won at No. 1 singles, and teammate Hunter Simpson took No. 2 singles. They combined for a win at No. 1 doubles.
Oxford girls 9, Jacksonville 0: Danielle Bolton won at No. 1 singles and combined with Abbie White for a victory at No. 1 doubles. White won at No. 2 singles. Peyton McGuirk won at No. 3 singles and combined with Brooke Boyles to win at No. 2 doubles. Boyles won at No. 5 singles.
Ashley Goodwin won at No. 4 singles, and Katlyn Lindblom won at No. 6. Goodwin teamed with Holly Hamlin to win at No. 3 doubles.
Jacksonville girls 7, Susan Moore 0: Elizabeth Poe, Cindee Pang and Quenteria Mooney each had two goals for Jacksonville, which is ranked No. 6 in Class 1A-4A. Ashton Wells added one goal.
Chanel Real had two assists, while Dora Lopez, Jordan Terry and Elizabeth Poe each added one.
Matti Lowery was in goal and recorded seven saves. She also had an assist.
Oxford 7, Benjamin Russell 1: Kendra Larkin pitched a complete-game victory, striking out eight.
Tearanie Henderson was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Lexie Higgins and Jenn Turner each went 1-for-3.
Oxford (7-1) will play at Cleburne County today.
Cleburne County tournament: In late softball action from Saturday, the Cleburne County Tigers finished second in the school’s Tiger round-robin tournament. Cleburne County completed its round-robin games 3-0, then fell to Pell City 6-4 in the title game.
The Tigers held a 4-2 lead before Pell City rallied. Freshman pitcher Amber Parker had four strikeouts in the loss. At the plate, she had two hits and scored two runs. Madison Jones’ two hits included a double and a single. Kiara Akles and Angel Norton also scored.
After defeating Clay Central on Friday night, Cleburne County picked up a 7-6 win over Gadsden City and a 10-2 win over Piedmont on Saturday to reach the championship game. Parker pitched all six innings against the Titans. She struck out three.
The Tigers’ Shay Henson went to second base on international tiebreaker rules, stole third and came home with the winning run on a wild pitch. Toni Epps, Kaity Zeiders, Kristen Leggett and Akles each had two hits for the Tigers.
Akles pitched all five innings against Piedmont and had eight strikeouts. Jones, Epps and Alisa Norton had three hits apiece, while Zeiders and Akles each went 2-for-3.
