Lanett 61, Westbrook Christian 50: Losing the Class 2A Northeast Regional boys final last year to rival LaFayette was all the motivation Lanett needed this week.

After dispatching Westbrook Christian, the Panthers advance to face Luverne on Tuesday at 7:30 in the 2A state semifinals Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Birmingham's BJCC Arena.

"I'm really proud of our kids because they weren't going to be denied," Lanett coach Richard Carter said. "They came in with a working attitude and that's what we were looking to do. When we left home, we said it's time to clock in. We clocked in this morning."

Lanett was led by Anquaevious Pollard's double-double. He had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Cameron Trammell added 11 points. Westbrook Christian got most of its production from Colin Edwards (13 points and 16 rebounds) and Kyle Leonard (13 points).

The Panthers overcame a 41-39 deficit early in the fourth quarter to blow up the game late in the fourth. Lanett led by as many as 14 points before the final buzzer.

"What we did in the second half is we tried to keep it from (Edwards) and (Leonard)," Carter said. "That caused them some problems."
