Woodville 69, Skyline 67: It took four attempts for the Woodville Lady Panthers to defeat the Skyline Lady Vikings this season.

The first victory this season over their rivals made school history. After winning a Northeast Regional game for the first time earlier this week, the Lady Panthers followed up by earning their first regional championship. With the regional championship in their pocket, Woodville will travel to Birmingham for the Class 1A Final Four.

“Coming into this job, all I was told was you have to beat Skyline, you have to beat Skyline,” Woodville head coach Stormy Stevens said.

Woodville (23-8) opened the game on a 9-0 run, and forced two Skyline timeouts within the first 50 seconds of the game. The Lady Panthers rode their 50 percent shooting from behind the 3-point arc to a 38-23 lead going into intermission.

Starting the third quarter, Skyline head coach Ronnie McCarver switched to a full-court trap defense, and it was effective. Woodville turned the ball over 13 times during the second half, while the Lady Vikings were on a 19-2 run to give them their first lead at 42-40.

Baylee Webb led the way for Woodville with 18 points and eight rebounds. Krysta McGinness added 13 points and nine rebounds. Kelsi Sisk chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds. Sara Baugh finished with 10 points.

For Skyline (25-5), Jordan McCarver finished with a double-double — 20 points and 14 rebounds — despite playing the majority of the second half with four fouls. Kristen Martin finished with 14 points, while playing the whole second half with four fouls as well. Sisters Kelsey and Sydney Ivey each added 10 points.
