An local man died Sunday morning after crashing his vehicle in Oxford.

Calhoun Coroner Pat Brown pronounced Corey Phillips, 24 of Oxford, dead at 9:34 a.m. Sunday at the scene on Frances Boulevard just off U.S. 78.

"He died from head trauma," Brown said.

Brown said Phillips was driving his girlfriend's Volvo and was the only person involved in the accident.

"He was not wearing a seatbelt and speed was a factor in the accident," Brown said. "He left the roadway, left the embankment, his car flipped and he was ejected."
