Prep basketball roundup: Faith Christian boys advance in 1A, Area 12 tournament

Josiah McDaniel scored 20 points as Faith Christian beat Jacksonville Christian in a Class 1A, Area 12 boys tournament game Tuesday night.

Faith Christian (8-15) advanced to the tournament semifinals, which will be Friday at Sacred Heart. Faith Christian will play top-seeded Sacred Heart at 6, while second-seeded Ragland and third-seeded Donoho will face off at 6:30 p.m. The finals will be Monday.

Four Faith Christian players had 10 points each in Tuesday’s win – Ryan Crosby, Jordan Griswould, London Huie and Logan Williamson. For Jacksonville Christian, which saw its season end with the loss, Daylon Brackett had 14 points and Alex Jones had 10.

Class 2A, Area 10

Ohatchee boys 61, Pleasant Valley 49:
At Woodland, senior Dillon Parker’s 20 points helped Ohatchee win the tournament opener over the Raiders. Sophomore Tristan Woodall netted four 3-point baskets in the first half and finished with 14 points. Classmate Micah Lee had 11 points for the Indians.

Seniors Hunter Carr and Dustin Andrews each scored 13 points for Pleasant Valley. Trey Phillips had nine points for the Raiders.

Ohatchee advanced to meet No. 1-seeded Ranburne, the tournament host, in the semifinal round Friday. The loss ended Pleasant Valley’s season.

Ohatchee girls 46, Wellborn 16: At Woodland, junior Joria Steger led the Indians to victory in the tournament opener with 16 points. Freshman Carlee Mullinax paced the Panthers with six points. Ohatchee will meet top-seeded Woodland in the semifinal round Thursday.

Regular season

White Plains boys 51, Woodland 40:
White Plains completed its regular season with a win at Woodland, evening the Wildcats’ record at 12-12.

Hunter Wheeler and Tyler Hardcastle led the winners with 11 points each. Nathan Gilbert pulled down 14 rebounds.

For Woodland, John Wes Adcock had 16 points.

White Plains will enter the Class 3A, Area 10 tournament as the fourth-seeded team. The Wildcats will play top-seeded Weaver, the tournament host, at 6 p.m. Friday.

Piedmont boys 84, Pisgah 75: At Piedmont, 30 points in the third quarter and 21 more in the fourth carried the Bulldogs to their second-highest point total this season and past visiting Pisgah.

Piedmont (15-10) trailed 34-33 at halftime. Denard Spears and Ty Sparks, Piedmont’s tandem of senior guards, led the way. Spears had 21 points and seven rebounds. Sparks had 16 points, including a pair of 3-point baskets, five rebounds and three assists. Junior Dreek Thompson netted three treys and ended with 14 points. Piedmont will play Saks on Thursday in the semifinals of the Class 3A, Area 10 tournament at Weaver.

Woodland girls 70, White Plains 23: At Woodland, the Bobcats erupted for 51 points in the first half and led 51-11 in an afternoon game. Leah Strain had 23 points in the win. Adre Bowen finished with 12 points for Woodland.

Amber Greenwood led White Plains with eight points.

Pisgah girls 45, Piedmont 39: At Piedmont, the Bulldogs played toe-to-toe with Pisgah, No. 6 in Class 3A in the current ASWA rankings. The Eagles led just 27-26 after three quarters. Riesha Thompson led Piedmont with 17 points, while Breanna Brazier added 10 points.
