January is designated as School Board Recognition Month, with the goal of building awareness of the crucial role elected board members play in our schools and local communities.

Board members are extraordinary people who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing school districts. Their actions and decisions affect the present and future lives of our children. They selflessly — and often without thanks — devote their knowledge, time and talents to serve as advocates for our Calhoun County students. We are extremely fortunate to have the highest level of leadership in these positions to help facilitate maximum success for Calhoun County Schools.

The Calhoun County Board of Education is composed of an elected group that volunteers endless hours of their particular time to serve in this outstanding school district. They are dedicated to our students, teachers, faculty, administrators and parents. These leaders strive daily to meet the challenges of improving public education in Calhoun County while serving all stakeholders with the highest priority of supporting school personnel to meet our student body needs. There are many upcoming challenges and opportunities for this group to make dedicated decisions that will positively impact our communities. This board is dynamic and will continue to make a difference in Calhoun County and beyond.

Please join me in honoring our Calhoun County School Board members: Mike Almaroad (chairman), Jeff Winn (vice chairman), Tobi Burt, David Gilmore, Dale Harbin, Debbie Hess and Phil Murphy.
