Oxford firefighters on Thursday afternoon responded to a car fire that resulted in a great deal of smoke but no injuries.

Oxford Fire Department assistant Chief Ben Stewart said his department responded to the call at 12:51 p.m. near the intersection of Alabama 21 and Plaza Lane.

Stewart was unsure what started the fire, which occurred in the 1993 Oldsmobile’s engine bay, but firefighters extinguished the blaze within minutes, he said.

The driver was the only person in the car when the fire occurred and was uninjured, Stewart said.

“He was out of the vehicle when we got there,” Stewart said.
