A musical Christmas program featuring students from Cheaha Creative Arts and the Cobb Elementary Mass Choir performed at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. The choir recently recorded a CD with the recording session paid for through the city’s Education Innovation Fund to motivate students and recognize the work students and teachers have put into the choir.
Songs included “What a Wonderful World!” and “Happy Birthday, Jesus.” The audience clapped as the choir sang and swayed to the music of “Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child,” which received a standing ovation. The finale was “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” The Tiffany window “Madonna and Child” was appreciated at this program hosted by the historic church and followed by a reception.
That evening, a myriad performers presented “O Holy Night” at Anniston First United Methodist Church, which was beautifully decorated with lighted trees, wreaths, angel banners, candles and lighted angels in the foyer. Christmas music was presented by a children’s choir, youth choir, bell choir, orchestra, adult choirs, soloists and a saxophone ensemble. Favorite Christmas songs included “What Child Is This,” “Away in a Manger,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “There’s a Song in the Air,” and the spiritual “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”
The music filled hearts with the light, love and hope of Christmas through songs we love to hear, Christmas bells ringing and children singing. Janice Maeditere states that “Christmas is not as much about opening presents as opening our hearts.”
