OHATCHEE — Josh Sexton’s middle name should be “Bring it.”

The Ohatchee sophomore moved up in weight classes to 126 pounds this season, despite weighing 122 and wrestling at 120 last season, simply for the competition. After Christmas, the 120 class changes to 122 and Sexton will make the move down in an attempt to win a state championship.

It’s certainly not a secret that the sophomore isn’t afraid of much. During the fall, he played fullback and linebacker for the Indians’ football team before picking back up with an even more physical sport.

When he’s not on the mat or field, Sexton likes to work out with his dad, Matt, who wrestled at Anniston and introduced the sophomore to the sport before Ohatchee started its program last season. Sexton also likes watching Atlanta Braves baseball, but oddly enough doesn’t like to play baseball.

Recently, Sexton took a few minutes before practice to sit down with Anniston Star sports writer Brandon Miller and put 10 questions on their backs.

Question: When did you start wrestling?

Answer: Last year. My dad wrestled and even before we got a team he was always talking about it and showing me moves. So once we got a team I wanted to give it a shot and I’ve really enjoyed it.

Q: You guys finish the semester this week, do you have any plans for the break?

A: I’ll just be practicing wrestling pretty much.

Q: What’s the best thing about wrestling?

A: It’s the thought that it’s just you and the other guy on the mat. It’s the competition. If you win, it’s because of you and nobody else.

Q: What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever gotten?

A: I’ve had quite a few, but last year my dad got me a wrestling mat. It was a pretty good one.

Q: What’s a match that really sticks out to you?

A: The match last Saturday at the Weaver tournament. I won in three rounds against Kyle Clapper (of Weaver). He and I have been beating each other every other time since last year, but now I’ve beat him back-to-back.

Q: Do you collect anything?

A: I collect signed baseballs. My favorite is probably a ball signed by Jason Heyward that he signed when he was a rookie.

Q: What’s your favorite tournament to compete in?

A: The Alabama School of the Blind tournament is nice to go to because they bring back all the people that’ve won state and were former athletes. It’s pretty cool to go there. It’s a great atmosphere.

Q: Wrestlers tend to have a pretty consistent diet, what’s yours?

A: Basically salads for lunch. I’ll eat a piece of pizza every once in a while. It’s just about not eating too much of it.

Q: What’s something not many people know about you?

A: I guess most people don’t know that wrestling is my favorite sport because I love football so much.

Q: Who do you talk to the most?

A: Probably the guy that’s been helping me out for wrestling, my dad. I call him and talk to him before matches.
