The school is seeking a person to succeed Jan Hurd, who is retiring as school president at the end of the current academic year. Kay said Wednesday night that two candidates visiting this week will visit the campus and meet the school community for what he said is part of the ongoing search for a new president.
“It’s still in the early stages, but we’ve talked to several people,” Kay said. “We’re excited about the possibilities of this search.”
Kay declined to provide further information, such as candidates’ names, but said the board will announce its selection at the end of the process.
Hurd started working for Donoho in 2000 as a principal, having previously been superintendent of Anniston public schools. Three years later she became Donoho’s president.
Donoho’s website states that the private college preparatory school will seek a candidate who will maintain its academic standards, excel in managing the various components of a school, help teachers use technology to enhance education, increase enrollment and work with integrity.
The Donoho School’s president fulfills administrative duties similar to those of superintendents in public school systems. The president will manage the school’s $3.1 million budget, oversee capital development and oversee Donoho staff, the website states.
The new president will be responsible for completing a strategic plan for the school, helping Donoho reach its enrollment goal of 425 students, developing the school’s philanthropic base and developing the school’s technology initiative, through which it has issued iPads to students in grades four through 12, according to information on the school’s website.
Children in pre-K through 12th grade attend the private school, which is on Henry Road in Anniston. It has upper, lower and middle divisions.
Donoho’s campus includes three academic buildings, athletic facilities and computer and science labs. The 50-year-old school is in the midst of a fundraising campaign to pay for new construction and technology upgrades.
