William Elbert Mitchell, 64, was charged with second-degree domestic violence, according to court records released today.
Anniston police Capt. Allen George told The Star on Monday that the incident took place in the family’s home on the 400 block of Chestnut Avenue.
A police report did not mention how the incident started, the captain said.
George said Mitchell’s son called police and told them his father struck his daughter several times in the side with the fishing pole. The victim suffered from bruising to the right side of her stomach, but required no medical attention, according to the captain.
Mitchell was in the Anniston City Jail on Thanksgiving Day and was released on a $7,500 bond Nov. 30, according to court records and jail workers. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 6.
