I am now working on a second book dealing with the April 29, 1944, mission of the 8th USAAF. Target was the Friedrichstrasse Railroad Station in Berlin. On that day, 63 heavy bombers were lost. One of these was the B-24, serial No. 41-129523, of the 448th Bomb Group. The bomber was downed by fighters during the return flight. The nose-turret gunner was killed during the attack, but the nine others of the crew bailed out and were taken prisoner.
Among the survivors was the radio-operator T/Sgt. William F. Hallman, who originated from Atlanta. He passed away in Heflin in September 2009.
As I would very much like to incorporate Williams’ story in my new book, I seek contact with his family members who may still live in the Heflin area. Perhaps he passed away and perhaps his obituary appeared in a local newspaper, indicating his next of kin.
Your kind assistance in my search would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
