Now, thanks to a new map from the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, we can zero in on racial makeup at the census-track level anywhere in the United States. If you're interested in who we are and where we live in Calhoun County, this map is a dream.
A few quick observations:
- We've known, at least superficially, that east Anniston was becoming a more diverse part of the county. But look how the areas just east of Quintard and just north of Regional Medical Center are hardly majority white. Times have changed.
- Yes, the county's strongest areas of Hispanic population are in south Oxford around the airport and the interstate.
- The red dots represent people of Asian descent. Look at the places throughout the county where they are most prevalent.
