Let’s go surfin’ now

Everybody’s learning how

Come on a safari with me …

On Saturday, Aug. 10, the Ladies Guild of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will once again transform the Anniston Country Club into a balmy island paradise for the Second Annual Beach Party! The event’s $35 per person ticket price is the best deal in town for a fun night out with friends.

Event Chair Yvonne Boothe is busy sorting through beach balls, flip-flops and sunglasses to create the perfect vacation experience. She and her design team, including Janet Reese, Charlotte Reid and Bonita Moreau, are hard at work devising their decorating theme.

The club’s Sandra Lawson will be doing her part, too, to keep the good times grooving as she whips up batches of her signature margarita concoction — with or without salt. An open wine, beer and cola bar (included in the ticket price) rounds out the beverage options. The menu for the buffet dinner (also included in the ticket price) is currently being planned, tweaked and polished by Ann Morgan and Mandi King.

DJ Calvin will bring his classic tunes back to the dance floor, teaming up with everyone’s favorite emcee, Jon Garlick, to keep the surfer dudes and beach babes entertained. And what beach party would be complete without a game of volleyball? Thanks to Tanya and Chad Sexton, a shabby chic island version is ready to play. More contests for prizes are also in the works including a dance-off, hula-hooping challenge and the ever-popular Limbo, Limbo, Limbo.

Guild Vice President Carol Speciale, along with the organization’s other officers — Sue Clement, secretary, and Eleanor Henderson, treasurer — have organized a silent auction crew to offer goodies for every budget. Items include Nascar tickets, a wine crate, a cool Harley-Davidson package, plus lots more.

And where would a fundraiser be without generous underwriters to get things fired up? Those come in the form of Bonnie and Lloyd Cory, Tim and Tracie Kerper, Mike and Jane Kline and Sandy and Brett Rothwell.

Tickets can be purchased with cash or check at Evans Flower Shop, located in the alley behind Peerless in downtown Anniston. To pay with credit card, call guild president Donna Barton at 256-237-1713. While tickets will not be sold at the door, these prepaid tickets charged to your card can be held at the door.
