We've written about Betsy Price, the mayor of Fort Worth, Texas, and her bicycle diplomacy before. Her Rolling Town Halls are an awesome way to introduce city residents to their neighbors, listen to constituents and get a little exercise in the process. The mayor is also deeply involved this month in the Tour de Fort Worth series of bicycle rides.
An event last weekend in Cowtown - The Mayor's Triathlon - warrants a fresh mention. The event required a 300-meter pool swim, a 15-mile bike ride and a 5K run. Promoters touted the event, noting it "combines all the character and charm of Fort Worth with a truly urban feel." More than 300 athletes competed.
There are plenty of photos from the event posted on Facebook, which is where we found this shot of Mayor Price crossing the finish line.
These are ideas worth stealing by our local mayors and council members, especially in a region where cycling and running have already taken hold. (See this, this, this and this, which is only a few weeks away.) Who will be the first local politician to step up?
