First team

P: Colton Pate

Jr., 6-1, Lincoln

Noteworthy: Pate led the Golden Bears with a 1.48 ERA and also struck out 83

batters. At the plate, he hit .310.

P: Spencer Gibbs

Jr., 5-9, Ranburne

Noteworthy: Gibbs led the Bulldogs on the mound with a perfect 9-0 record

and a 0.79 ERA. The junior also struck out 56 batters in 53 1/3 innings. He

played third base as well.

P: Grant Benefield

Jr., 5-10, Spring Garden

Noteworthy: Benefield led Spring Garden with a 2.01 ERA and 70 strikeouts as

the Panthers made the Class 1A playoffs. The senior also hit .346 with 42

runs, 36 RBIs and a .507 on-base percentage.

C: Clayton Young

Sr., 5-10, Ranburne

Noteworthy: Young led the Bulldogs in nearly every offensive category,

including a .465 batting average and .565 on-base percentage. The senior hit

six doubles and three home runs while driving in 27 runs.

INF: Jared Edwards

Sr., 6-0, Ranburne

Noteworthy: Edwards hit .366 for the Bulldogs, which made it to the

quarterfinals of the Class 2A playoffs. The senior drove in 19 runs and

scored 32 times. He also won nine games on the mound with a 1.34 ERA.

INF: Brad Benefield

Sr., 6-0, Randolph County

Noteworthy: Benefield led the team with a .507 on-base percentage while

hitting .346. The senior hit seven doubles and recorded 42 runs and 36 RBIs

on 36 hits.

INF: Brady Padgett

So., 6-0, Cleburne County

Noteworthy: Padgett led the Tigers to the quarterfinals of the Class 4A

playoffs with a .467 batting average and .621 on-base percentage. The

sophomore also had a 6-0 pitcher record with a 3.07 ERA.

INF: Lance Daniel

Sr., 6-1, Randolph County

Noteworthy: Daniel played a large role for the Tigers, hitting .346 with a

team-high 37 hits. The senior hit 13 doubles and recorded 33 runs and 34


OF: Mark David Smith

Jr., 5-11, Ranburne

Noteworthy: Smith hit .391 with 34 hits for the Bulldogs. A North-South

All-Star selection, he also scored 29 runs and had 22 RBIs.

OF: Clay Upchurch

Sr., 5-8, Munford

Noteworthy: Upchurch put on a show for the Tigers, hitting .571 with 28

RBIs. The senior also reached base safely 28 straight at-bats at one point

during the season.

OF: Tanner Johnson

Sr., 6-4, Cherokee County

Noteworthy: Johnson led the Warriors at the plate, hitting .371. The junior

recorded 11 runs and six RBIs.

UTIL: Logan Sims

Sr., 6-0, Lincoln

Noteworthy: Sims led the Golden Bears with a .567 on-base percentage, while

hitting .295. The senior scored 18 times and only made one error throughout

the season.

DH: Blake Haynie

Sr., 5-11, Munford

Noteworthy: Haynie provided a good season for the Tigers at the plate,

batting .487. The senior hit two home runs and recorded 22 RBIs.
