His interest in the insurance business led him to open a State Farm office Jan. 1 at 1202 Pelham Rd. S., just past Farmers and Merchants Bank. Posey and his wife, Tina, hosted a grand opening on June 19.
The office’s hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday and after hours by appointment. The phone number is 782-3243.
Posey has what he said are three knowledge team members helping him -- Donna Raburn, Jeremy McDonald and Hannah Byers.
“State Farm thought it was the right time, right demographics and the right population for a new office,” he said. “I’m liking it a lot. We get to meet a lot of new people, and we get to help them with their insurance and financial needs. We’re also involved with people when they have some kind of catastrophe in their life. We’re kind of like a key point for them. I especially enjoy that.”
Prior to opening a State Farm office, Posey worked in the design and sell of custom kitchens at Kerr Cabinet in Oxford.
“I enjoyed it, but I began looking for my next move because the economy hit the construction business really hard,” he said.
“Though I’m new to the insurance business, I’ve been self employed for 25 years. I’ve had to make tough choices through good times and bad. My life’s experiences enable me to give good advice on solid insurance and financial products from State Farm.”
Posey and his wife had an upholstery shop in Piedmont from 1981-87, in Jacksonville from 1987-99 and again in Piedmont from 1999-2007.
He is the son of the late Ted and Billie Posey of Piedmont. Tina is the daughter of Robert Pace and the late Sally Jackson. Her stepfather is Clarence Jackson.
The Poseys live in Piedmont. They have three children. Sara, 20, is a psychology pre-med major at Jacksonville State University. Seth, 18, is a recent Jacksonville Christian Academy graduate and has recently joined the ROTC at JSU. Sally, 13, is in eighth grade at JCA.
The Poseys are members of First Baptist Church of Piedmont where Posey teaches an adult Sunday school class and is a former deacon.
Tina attended Judson College in Marion. She is going into her sixth year of teaching in the pre-school program at JCA.
“The children are just precious,” she said. “I love them. They’re always exciting. You never know what they’re going to say. Just watching them come in and not knowing how to read, then in the spring they know how, is just amazing.”
Tina said she got a taste of working with children when she babysat her nieces. She realized then that that’s what she’d like to do. Her hobbies, scrap booking and photography, center around her own children.
Posey said his only hobby is his family.
“Whatever they’re involved in, school activities, sports or anything else, that’s where I am,” he said. “They keep us busy.”
