Jacksonville High School Principal Mike Newell announced at a faculty meeting last Friday that he will not be returning next year as principal.

Newell, who has been principal for the past 10 years and was assistant principal for two years before that, says that he is leaving to pursue other professional opportunities in the field of education.

Dr. Jon Paul Campbell, superintendent of Jacksonville City Schools, said that the job for principal, along with the job of director of operations, were both posted last Thursday at the central office.

Campbell explained that an administrative job must be posted for 14 days before it is filled.

“We are looking for the best principal candidate we can possibly find,” said Campbell.

Campbell is hopeful that both jobs will be filled before a special called board meeting on May 30.
