MONTGOMERY — It fell apart for Cherokee County in the top of the sixth when Haleyville’s offense exploded, going on to win a rematch of the 2012 championship game 4-0 in second round of the Class 4A state tournament Thursday.

While Cherokee County pitcher Tori Davis and Haleyville pitcher Holly Ward both cruised the first five innings, the Lions ((42-12) got to Davis immediately in the sixth.

Third-ranked Cherokee County (40-8) will face top-ranked Alabama Christian at 7 tonight.

Haleyville’s sixth inning began with a double, single and two more doubles consecutively, scoring three runs. Although Ward also singled before Cherokee County recorded an out, Davis was able to hold Haleyville off the board the remainder of the inning. However, the Lions did add an insurance run in the seventh.

Cherokee County was never able to get its bats going against Ward, who allowed only one hit over seven innings. The lone hit came from Jessen Burk.
