Next year will mark the 100th anniversary of the start of this war. To date, I have not seen anything in the local or national news media of any local or national preparations to commemorate the sacrifices of those veterans.
I had a grandfather and several great-uncles who fought in this war as did many of your family members. As a veteran, it worries me that we as a nation might let these dates pass by without honoring and acknowledging the service of these veterans with at least a minimal showing of appreciation for their deeds.
If any organizations have plans to honor these veterans I would like to know about it and participate or at least attend such an event.
It would be nice if our print and electronic media could cover the daily remembrances of these events, starting in 2014, with the same conviction and zeal as they have for America’s other wars and veterans.
Anything less would be a national disgrace and make us unworthy to call ourselves their descendants.
