A man was charged Monday night with injuring his mother and another man during an assault in Anniston last week.

Jason Sterling Williams, 38, of Anniston, was charged with first-degree assault and first-degree domestic violence, both felonies, according to a police report.

Williams allegedly attacked his 59-year-old mother on April 24 inside an apartment on the 1700 block of Wilmer Avenue, according to Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks.

Sparks said Williams used a large wooden pole to repeatedly hit his mother.

During the assault, Sparks said, a 60-year-old man who was acquainted with the family tried to intervene and was struck several times in the head with the same weapon.

The mother suffered injuries all over her body, Sparks said, and was taken to Regional Medical Center for treatment. The man suffered a severe head injury and received treatment at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital, according to the sergeant.

Sparks said both victims were released from the hospitals and are expected to recover from their injuries.

Police apprehended Williams at a home at 223 East 22nd Street Monday night, a police report stated.

Williams could face additional charges, according to Sparks.

“Other cases are being investigated where Williams is a potential suspect,” he said.

Williams was in the Anniston City Jail on Tuesday morning. Bond is set at $40,000. A court appearance is scheduled for May 20.
