Mal Moore retired from the position Wednesday because of health concerns. He has been hospitalized since last week at Duke Medical Center, getting tests and receiving treatment for pulmonary issues. Moore was paid $600,500 a year.
Battle played at Alabama for Bear Bryant and was a starter in 1960-62, including on the 1961 national championship team. He served as Tennessee's head coach in 1970-76 before entering private business.
