Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said employees from a business on the 1700 block of Coleman Road told police they discovered a forged check while reviewing company records.
According to a police report, the check was received by the business sometime between Feb. 27 and Tuesday.
Sparks said the business lost $40,501.19 after the check was cashed. He declined to say what kind of business it was.
Police are looking into leads and may have a possible suspect, the sergeant said.
The report states a suspect is likely to face second-degree forgery and first-degree theft charges, both felonies.
