The National Journal, a national political magazine, has ranked each member of Congress by their liberal and conservative leanings.
Based on the NJ’s research, Alabama’s delegation is decidedly middle-of-the-road.
The state’s most conservative House member is Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Huntsville — and he placed 74 spots behind the House’s most-conservative member. Rep. Martha Roby of Montgomery is second. Third District Congressman Mike Rogers of Saks was third.
In the Senate, Richard Shelby (19th overall) and Jeff Sessions (22nd) were nowhere close to that chamber’s most-conservative members.
In other words, Alabama’s Republican lawmakers have a ways to go before they become the rightest of the right in Washington.
