The Wildcats hit 8 of 13 from 3-point range and shot 61.1 percent from the floor to spoil Munford’s third regional semifinal appearance in as many years.
“It’s kind of disappointing to get here three years in a row and get knocked out in the first round each,” Munford coach Isiah Gaddis said. “It’s an accomplishment to make it, but we just came out flat.”
Munford finished its season at 13-16. Guntersville (20-9) will play the Anniston-Madison County winner Saturday at 10:45 a.m.
Guntersville got 19 points from Dakota Cothran, 17 from Blake Kennedy and 13 with 10 rebounds from Darris Stewart. They combined to hit six of the Wildcats’ 3-pointers.
When Munford adjusted and ran out on Guntersville’s shooters, the Wildcats drove around them or hit backdoor plays.
“Our plan was just to come out and execute our offense and be able to take care of the ball and make sure we block them out and do a good job of rebounding against them,” Guntersville coach Fred Steger said. “They’re a good athletic team, and they do a good job going to the boards and making second, third and fourth chances.”
Munford finished with four offensive rebounds and got outrebounded 26-15 overall.
Monteo Garrett led the Lions with 14 points, and Quan Richardson added 11.
