The defending Class 5A state champions hammered 2011 champion Center Point 68-43 in a game that wasn't close from the start. Playing in the Northeast Regional semifinals, the Patriots built a 15-point advantage by the end of the first quarter and never led by fewer than that the rest of the way.
“I kind of like this gym,” said Brewer coach Ricky Allen, whose team will play either Ramsay or Columbia in Friday's regional finals at 4 p.m.
“Our kids were so focused, so determined and knew what they wanted to do.”
Center Point had three Division I signees, including guards Keonna Farmer (Auburn) and Dominique Patrick (Grambling) and center Gabrielle Holston (Georgia Tech). However, they struggled to match up against Brewer's offense, which featured four perimeter players and an all-state junior, Riley Northway, in the middle.
Northway finished with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Savana Flack added 12 points and five assists. Rheagan Harvel had 13 points and three steals.
Patrick led Center Point with 20 points, while Farmer added 12. Holston didn't score.
