A little-known fact has emerged in the new Obama care mandate. Older smokers who purchase insurance may have to pay up to $5,000 more per year than non-smokers. And the penalty increases with the purchaser’s age.

Now, if you don’t smoke, perhaps this doesn’t concern you. But, do you think it will stop there? Why not penalize those who are overweight? Or, say, drink alcoholic beverages? Like to get a tan? Make ’em pay! Or, what about those with a family history of any disease? You get the point.

New York Mayor Bloomberg now restricts the size of a soda that can be sold, and more laws are being contrived daily to take away our ability to make a choice. What will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back? Smoking? Guns? Or if you can have a Coke or Pepsi?

Everyone seems willing to let these little freedoms slip away … until it’s one of their bad habits. The land of the free may become the land that time forgot. All of us should be thinking about our freedom and not allow any more of it to slip away.
