On Friday, police arrested and charged Robbie Dale Pate, 40, of Anniston, with killing James Cooley Blair, whose body was discovered at a residence on the 800 block of Sparks Street on Dec. 23.
Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell said Monday that an autopsy of Blair revealed the man died around Dec. 21 from trauma to the head. Police said the suspect and victim knew each other, but Doggrell said he could not reveal more information due to the ongoing investigation.
“We’re still working on it, and trying to tie up some loose ends today,” Doggrell said.
Doggrell said when police discovered Blair’s body, the state of decomposition made it difficult for officers to determine a cause of death. The holidays further delayed autopsy results, he said.
Doggrell said he doesn’t expect any more arrests in connection with the homicide.
Pate was transferred to the Calhoun County Jail over the weekend and is being held on $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 11.
