What an interesting story The Star recently did on the FreddyJet dance studio in Oxford. It’s the third story of three in the last two years. It did make me wonder, though: Why has this paper not done a story on LA’s Dance and Tumbling Stars, a dance studio in Anniston?
Since they were 2 years old, my children have taken dance and tumbling from Leigh Ann Wilder of LA’s Dance and Tumbling Stars. They are now 7 and 5. Both children began in Leigh Ann’s creative movement classes for toddlers. Now my son takes an all-boy tumbling class and my daughter takes ballet, tap and tumbling. Additionally, both my children have participated in the summer dance camps Leigh Ann runs every year. These camps are attended by many of Leigh Ann’s regular students as well as some non-students whose parents use the summer to expand their children’s horizons and test out new activities.
Leigh Ann is, to say the least, a wonderful dance teacher. Her students love her and so do her students’ parents.
When Leigh Ann first opened her own studio, it was in Oxford. Last year, she relocated to Noble Street. So why hasn’t The Star done a story on her studio? Not only is it in Anniston, it’s part of the downtown revival effort. Her students participate in a recital every spring. Last spring, they were invited to perform as part of the Cheaha Dance Alliance. They perform in the Anniston Christmas parade every year and in years past have put on shows at local nursing homes during the holiday season as well.
Certainly, the FreddyJet studio is worthy of newsprint, but it seems to me that The Anniston Star should show a little love to its Anniston businesses, too, especially those as stellar as LA’s Dance and Tumbling Stars.
