As if to erase even the shadow of a doubt, Syria blocked the Internet and other forms of electronic communication inside the country’s borders on Thursday.
A pattern is emerging. Egypt and Libya suffered Internet blackouts as governments there, like the one in Syria, sought to limit the free expression of protesters. Those measures ultimately failed in Libya and Egypt as the long-time strongmen of those nations were forced out of power, exemplifying the Latin phrase post tenebras lux (light after darkness). We hope for the same in Syria.
