Nov. 26, 1937, in The Star: So how about that long-awaited football game between Anniston and Gadsden high schools? Well, it ended in a tie, 6-6. (No other details were available, because the sports page that would have contained an account of the game is missing from the latter-day microfilm record. The score comes from a season roundup in the Nov. 27 issue.) Also this date: Students, farmers and others who plan to take temporary jobs in Anniston and Calhoun County during the Christmas holidays and do not have a Social Security card should obtain one immediately, it was stated today by C. L. Simpson, manager of the Anniston field office of the Social Security Board. Many employers will not even take an application if the applicant has not been issued a number, it was said.
Nov. 26, 1987, in The Star: The Anniston City Council next month is going to have to rescind a nomination it made two nights ago to the five-member Anniston Water and Sewer Board. The problem is, the nomination was for a seat that wasn't vacant. Some bad information made it to the council members earlier, causing them to believe a vacancy had occurred when actually that particular seat won't be open until August next year. Councilman Chester Weeks said he'd keep the person he had nominated in mind until then.
