Darrell Royal, who died at age 88 Wednesday, was Texas’ Bear Bryant. He won championships and molded men. He was the epitome of a legend of his own time. So Alabamians can relate to the pain felt by Longhorn fans.

Losing a legend is never easy.

Say what you will about Gene Stallings and Nick Saban, but Alabama has never replaced the Bear. Texas would say the same about its beloved Royal.
