The Oct. 13 Ohatcheefest was a wonderful event for Calhoun County. As I looked up at the leaves falling and the bright blue sky, a gentle breeze suddenly unfurled the large Confederate flag flying atop the hill at Janney Furnace. What a beautiful flag.

I know that many groups and individuals have tried for years to get Calhoun County Commissioner Eli Henderson to take the flag down. Those people have finally come to realize that Eli and The Friends of Janney Furnace do not promote the flag in any fashion other than it being a part of our history.

Eli, thanks for taking a stand. We need more elected officials like you. I appreciate someone who supports my history and heritage.
