The Model City Preservation Coalition will host two speakers from Year of Boulevard, which has worked to increase awareness of the historic value of Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward. The area is a cradle of the African American civil rights movement, home to the Ebenezer Baptist Church once pastored by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Model City group is interested in historic preservation and awareness in Anniston, according one of its board members, Jerrod Brown.
According to Brown, the group invited the Atlanta speakers here “because they faced many of the same problems which we have in Anniston,” he wrote in an email. Those problems include crime and blight, he wrote.
The Model City Preservation Coalition will hold a businesses meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, followed by the speakers from YoBoulevard!, as the Atlanta program is known, at 6:30 p.m. The events will be held at the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce Auditorium, at 1330 Quintard Ave., downtown.
