“We’ve been trying to involve families, and it all came together this year,” he says.
The fun starts at FCB Comics in Oxford (located on Creekside Drive in Oxford across the street from Garfrerick’s Cafe). Beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, students from the Oxford High School theater department will turn you and your children into zombies, free of charge. Be sure to wear clothing that can get dirty, because “there will be blood,” Knight says. The students will also talk to the children about their studies in theater and cosmetics.
The group will leave the comic book shop at 3 p.m. and head to the Public Library of Anniston-Calhoun County at 3:30 p.m. for more zombie preparation and make-up, as well as a talk from Kim Westbrooks in the children’s department.
At 6 p.m., the Anniston Yoga Center on Noble Street is offering a free zombie yoga class (beginner level). All zombies are welcome to attend.
After the yoga class, the group will head to Noble Street Billiards for dinner (at your own cost), and give time for the parents to “recoup, eat and find a babysitter,” said Knight.
The adults-only pub crawl begins at 8 p.m. at the Peerless Saloon and Grill. The zombies will then head to the Crimson Tiger to rock to ’80s cover band The Blackhearts, and will end at The Smoking Moose, where a zombie king and queen will be crowned. Throughout the day — during kid time and adult time — prizes will be awarded to the zombies.
