The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last week upheld the death sentence of 41-year-old Anthony Boyd for the slaying of Gregory Huguley. Witnesses testified Boyd helped tie Huguley to a board and the victim was doused with gasoline and set afire. Court records show the men kidnapped Huguley from an Anniston street because he owed them $200 for cocaine.
The men were accused of killing Huguley at a baseball field in the Munford community in Talladega County.
Assistant Attorney General Clay Crenshaw said Boyd's case is on its second round of appeals. He has an appeal remaining to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Cox told the court he and Boyd were looking for someone else who had stolen money from Boyd when they ran across Shawn Ingram and Moneek Marcell Ackles. The men got into a van driven by Ackles and were continuing the search when they saw Huguley near a hangout on 15th Street called the Happy Tree, Cox said.
The men reportedly then drove Huguley to the Munford ball field where he was later found burned to death.
Boyd, Ingram and Ackles were convicted of capital murder, and Ackles was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Cox pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison. The U.S. Supreme Court in 2001 upheld Ingram’s sentence of death.
